Removing Wax

I spilled some wax on a shirt, how can I remove it?

(1) remove as much of the residue of the wax as possible with a fingernail or a toothpick.

(2) The next step depends on the content and strength of the fabric.  This method is only for a non-fragile fabric, nothing like satin, silk, rayon, etc.  Place a clean tea towel directly underneath the fabric and a clean tea towel on top of the fabric over the wax, and then using the nose of your iron [no steam, only dry, low heat]  go back and forward over the spot with the wax, to heat the area.  Then blot the wax.  Keep checking the area so you don't overdue it.  If the wax drips through then the towel underneath will absorb it.  Repeat this procedure until you are satisfied.
(3) There is no guarantee that this method will not leave a stain.  You didn't mention if it is colored wax, because if it is then most likely it will leave a stain.

If the item is worth any value [monetary or emotional], then the best bet is to take the item to a reputable dry cleaner.

Remember to use common sense and caution.  There is no guarantee these methods will work and they may cause further damage.

Another option is a liquid candle wax remover.  Williams-Sonoma offers "Wax Away" for $6.95.  We haven't used this product yet, but they generally offer reputable products.  Williams-Sonoma may be reached at 1-800-541-2233 or at www.williams-sonoma.com.
