How do I clean my new shower with the gold tone
finish?
Thank you for your question and your comment on our visitor's page. One
of our clients likes to place a paper coffee filter in the bottom of her waste
paper can. This also looks nice. But during the flu season, for
health reasons you can't beat a plastic bag to capture all of the contaminated
tissues.
We don't like the daily shower cleaners / sprays. Eventually, there is
going to be wear on the gold finish because generally these products are made of
alcohol. We have found that these sprays promote the growth of an orange
colored, slippery scum / algae on the floor of the shower. We don't have
any explanation for this, but have found this slippery danger in several of our
clients' showers.
Our rule of thumb is that if you can't put it on your face, then it shouldn't go
on the gold finish. Many of these finishes are fragile and often do not
live up to manufacturer's claims of wearability or warranty. We have seen
several bathrooms with these types of finishes discolor and eventually turn
black for absolutely no reason.
In your shower we suggest using a squeegee to keep the area spot- free.
And we have had success using Ajax dishwashing soap [not the anti-bacterial] to
clean the shower doors. This is a mild solution and acts as a degreaser.
Remember to use common sense and caution. Always try a test area in an
inconspicuous place because these methods could damage unstable materials.
